Nakashima Studio is a furniture-making studio created by George Nakashima. George Nakashima is a Japanese-American woodworker, architect, and furniture maker. The studio's approach is based on direct experience. From small ideas to finished products, a process of developing outward from the inner core, like the growth of a tree.

Although George Nakashima did not create the butterfly joint, he was very sincere about utilizing it as an important element of furniture design.

The logo for Nakashima is inspired by the naturalness and quietness of this brand and features the iconic butterfly joints found on most of Nakashima’s furniture pieces.

George Nakashima’s furniture design is inspired by the idea of Wabi-Sabi(侘寂). Wabi-Sabi is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection.
Nakashima Studio redefines the meaning of “free-form”, as it no longer did it references a man-made form, but a form created by nature itself instead.

The design approach of this new visual identity system is based on the universal principles of producing objects without "style," producing natural, real and utilitarian objects.

Social media will inform of new events, new arts, and new installations that happen in the studio.
